Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the questions we are most often asked, together
with some answers we hope will help.
Are there any restrictions on visiting?
No, you may visit at any reasonable time. If you would like to take
a complimentary meal with your relative/ friend please let us know
24 hours in advance.
Can you provide overnight accommodation if I am visiting
from far away?
Please ask us at the time. We have an in house flat, and if a room
is vacant we’re happy to offer it to visiting relatives. If
not, we will be pleased to recommend local overnight accommodation.
Can my relative/ friend bring their own furniture?
Yes, small items of furniture are very welcome and we will do our
best to accommodate any larger items where possible. If you intend
to make physical alterations (e.g. putting up shelves), please let
us know first.
Does Hurst Manor provide TVs?
We usually find that residents prefer to provide their own TVs.
We can recommend a local shop that hires sets.
Are meal times fixed?
We will do our best to accommodate any changes required, perhaps
because you are taking your relative out for part of the day. Again,
24 hours notice is helpful.
Can you accompany my friend/relative to the doctor, hospital
or other medical visit?
Unfortunately this is not possible without an extra charge. Our
staffing levels are determined by the Commission of Social Care
Inspection and by the day-to-day needs of the home. To provide a
member of staff for an accompanied visit is normally only possible
if we pay the person concerned, and find alternative staff for the
home for the period of their absence. We will try to help in an
emergency, but we do need to charge for the time involved.
Can you do shopping for my relative?
Staff are often happy to shop for clients outside the home on an
informal basis. However, it would help if you would take responsibility
for your relative’s personal shopping requirements whenever
possible. We normally hold fashion shows several times a year at
which clothing can be bought.
Do the fees cover everything?
Essentially, yes. The only categories of item not covered are indicated
in the contract, and we’ll make sure you have a draft copy
to study before you make a decision. All our in house entertainment
is provided free of charge. There is an annual charge of £5.00
for the concessionary TV licence for any client who has a TV set
in their room who is unable to provide evidence of entitlement to
a free TV licence.
Do you take responsibility for valuables?
We can, but they must be placed specifically into our care. Items
left in clients’ rooms are the responsibility of the client
concerned. Please note that all our rooms have door locks and lockable
storage already or will do so shortly.
Will the fees rise?
We normally review fees annually on the anniversary of admission.
Rises are normally confined to inflation, changes in legislation,
or a noticeable increase in degree of dependency. Occasionally a
significant, unexpected and sustained deterioration may require
an interim fee review. All our fees are quoted gross. That is, before
taking account of any entitlement a resident may have to the Registered
Nursing Care Contribution that the government makes to every nursing
patient.
Which medical services visit the home?
We are visited regularly by doctors, optician, chiropodist.
